It was a beautiful, sunny day at the park. A perfect autumn day for hiking and enjoying nature! We saw many different living organisms in their environments: seagulls, ladybugs, hawks, a whitetail deer, a porcupine, salmon, and a blue heron. We also encountered various land forms as we hiked along: Great Lake, shore, fore-dune, interdunal pond, back dune, linear and parabolic dunes, forest, valley, river, lake, and island. One of the best parts was walking over a man-made dam. Mr. Sawin's favorite part is going over a foot-bridge and hiking on an island covered by a hemlock forest. Students could not see there own animal cards. They had to ask yes and no questions to discover characteristics of their animal. "Do I have fur?" "Am I a mammal?" "Does my animal have wings?" It's a milestone. 30 years. Time has flown by so fast—where did 30 years go? Now I'm having the children of the students I had years ago. That's fun. I've taught classrooms at 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 5th, also middle school math, elementary P.E. and music, and middle and high school choir. I've enjoyed it all! Thanks to all my students who have may teaching wonderful.
